What is Thermoset?

A common question that comes up is, what is Thermoset and how does it relate to RIM molding?

The Reaction Injection Molding process is named because of the chemical reaction that occurs when two liquid components are injected into the aluminum mold. This chemical reaction is called Thermoset;  the polymers experience an exothermic reaction using  a low temperature and low pressure process.

One of the liquid components determines the physical characteristics of the molded part while the other determines the density, impact, and strength of the molded part. Because of this low pressure, low temperature process we are able mold-in metallics, and other materials which can save on secondary operations.
